The Shorn Buns - Ro & Inspector Japp vs Puppy Cuts
Whenever the temperature reaches 25° C/77° F, according to tips I have found, there’s cause to worry about helping bunnies keep cool. Since our bunnies are angora mixes with very long and dense floofs - more so in Rowan’s case; Chief Inspector Japp didn’t get the good wool genes from their mother - I was worried about them, as the temperatures have been close to 30° C/84° F for a couple of days now.
Finnish residences for the most part do not do a/c, so opening the windows is the extent of what we typically do in the summer. It can get a bit uncomfortable, but it isn’t inadequate - it only goes to 30° C (84° F) a couple of days per summer, typically.
Bunnies lose heat through their ears and don’t sweat, so giving them a short-allover “puppy cut” in the summer is a good idea for long-haired rabbits. In last summer’s heat wave I already chopped most of the floof off with round-tipped scissors (I found that suggestion, since nervous bunnies often dislike the buzzing of clippers, on… some bunny site somewhere… house rabbit society, maybe?). So I was well aware that it’s not easy to give an even trim using small blunt-tipped scissors (maybe impossible if your patient is as touchy and jumpy as mine), but needs must.
They both look really silly right now and it’s… we’re gonna go with “considerably less photogenic than usual”.
The Majestic Floof is not looking majestic at all; we catch sight of him and shout, “Awwww! The Shorn Bun!” and “Oh no! You’re so smol, you’re almost skinny!”
Chief Inspector Bun-Bun, who doesn’t enjoy grooming, unlike his bro, put up a lot of a fight about getting his haircut and looks even sillier, but he’s been sulking since he was done and I don’t have any very good pictures yet.
