what is the context for this
Picard has an artificial heart because he was stabbed through the chest at the Academy, so when he is on the verge of dying on the operating table in one ep Q gives him the option of changing the past. They travel back in time to the events leading up to his stabination and among other things, middle-aged Picard sleeps with a formerly platonic friend of his. After the nighttime fade-to-black, he wakes up like this with Q having taken the place of his lady friend. The day before, he told Q that he and the lady in question were just friends. (Then he slept with her.)
